The calendar has turned to April, and it’s time to introduce a new feature of MBA Athletics Instagram - the Star Bagel Spring Spotlight! Our first team we want to shine a light on is the Varsity Tennis squad. Coached by Mark Sutton, the Big Red are consistently a top team in the mid-state, and this year’s squad has proven themselves strong beyond Tennessee’s borders! Over the weekend, MBA won two out of three matches in Bowling Green, KY - without the help of upperclassmen due to Prom we might add - while they won the Huntsville Invitational in Alabama earlier in the season. In town, MBA has taken down the likes of Page (7-0), Brentwood Academy (7-0), Pope Prep (6-1) and Father Ryan (7-0) with upcoming home matches against Brentwood High School, Ensworth, CPA and Lipscomb Academy - plus of course the annual Carter Invitational. Be sure to come out at some point this Spring and cheer on the Big Red! Eighth grader Ruger Pennington finished in second place at the NHSCA Nationals for wrestling over the weekend. His runner up finish adds to what was an impressive season for him, earning Most Outstanding Wrestler in the HVAC before being one of the Big Red’s top wrestlers on the Varsity team. He wasn’t the only one to participate in the event either as John Phillip Simpson, Cam Snyder and Dominic Simpson also competed with Dominic finishing one spot shy of a top-8 finish and an All-American spot. Congratulations to each of these individuals as they hone in on their skills on the mat this offseason, representing MBA well in the process!

HS Athlete of the Week: Andrew Sillay ‘26 The senior Andrew Sillay shot a 97 out of 100 on Saturday at the Sam Garrett Sporting Clays Challenge, earning the award for the top individual shooter. In the shotgun team’s two competitions, Andrew has been a key contributor - and he’s expected to remain one as the Big Red pursue a second straight state championship. JS Athlete of the Week: Michael Holscher ‘30 Junior School Baseball won a key league game over CPA last week, blanking the Lions 10-0. Eighth-grader Michael Holscher threw a complete game as he allowed just one hit while reaching base in all three plate appearances. The MBA Athlete of the Week is presented by @omsnashville. #RollRed

MBA Shotgun hosted the 2nd Annual Sam Garrett Sporting Clays Challenge over the weekend where the Big Red and members of the community honored, remembered and celebrated the legacy of Sam, a 2017 graduate and proud member of the program. Sam passed away in 2021 after a battle with cancer but his legacy is much larger - being remembered for his talent and contributions to @mbashotgun. A team captain and assistant coach for MBA, Sam won numerous competitions and earned a place on the United States Jr. Olympic team. Funds from the event support youth shooting scholarships. MBA senior Andrew Sillay won the High Individual Shooter Award with a score of 97 out of 100 while fellow senior Jackson Crawford took home the Long Bird Competition. Congratulations to these two individuals and thanks to everyone who helped make the event possible!
